Garden Twinning

Twin your garden and support Ugandans to learn new farming skills so they have enough to eat

Almost 40% of people in Uganda grow food in their garden to survive, or as the President of Uganda says they ‘work for their stomach’. Despite this, the majority of children still do not have three meals a day.

How twinning helps

Your donation will fund training in sustainable farming methods for families in rural Uganda so they can increase crop yields, enjoy a surplus to sell and start small businesses. This means they can cope with climate changes, feed their children properly and send them to school.

What you receive

Twin your garden with a garden in Uganda and receive:

• A sustainable wooden plaque to display in your garden
• A certificate with a picture of your garden twin and its location (you can personalise the certificate making it a great gift option)
• A packet of seeds

How much does it cost?

• Garden Twinning: £60
• Community Garden Twinning: £120 (for schools, churches and community groups)

‘The farming training changed my way of thinking and working. I started planting groundnuts in my garden and used the profit from the harvest to invest in two piglets, which are now reproducing. I also started growing vegetables to sell and I grow cassava, beans and potatoes for home consumption so we always have enough to eat. I now have savings in case of emergency, and I can pay for my granddaughter to go to school. She hopes to become a teacher in the future.’

Frequently asked questions

Contact us
  • Will I receive the stake to put the plaque on?

We do not supply the stake for the plaque. Postage of this would be too expensive. We recommend some treated baton or a tree stake that should last several years, these will be availiable at most DIY stores. The plaque could also be mounted on a shed, on a fence or the side of the house for people to see.

  • Is the garden plaque weatherproof?

The garden plaque is has a laser engraved logo on chestnut wood that has been treated with an outdoor stain. Chestnut is a hard wood chosen to withstand the weather. After a while you will need to treat your plaque with a wood preservative or varnish to keep it in good condition. The frequency of treatment will depend on the plaques location and how much strong sunshine it receives.
