Amigos Supporter Joss Stone

International singing star and soul sensation, Joss Stone, joined Amigos for working visits to Uganda in April 2006 and Oct 2009. The Devon songstress showed her down to earth and caring nature as she accepted our invitation to visit the Kira Farm Training Centre.

Joss officially opened Kira Farm Training Centre in Oct 2009.

Joss has a real heart for young children and she enjoyed spending time playing games and visiting some of the orphaned children we are sponsoring with education in Kampala Masindi and Lira.

Joss Stone in Uganda with Amigos

Joss is no stranger to the needs of Africa, she sang at the Live8 concert and also on the now famous Christmas number one, ‘Do they know it's Christmas time'. Joss said “I think any group of people putting their lives aside to help others deserves support. Amigos is doing just that and doing a really great job of it. There are so many people living in Africa who are hardly living at all. It just seems so unnecessary.”

When Joss heard about what we are doing, she was very keen to find something she could do to help. As well as trying her hand at bricklaying at Kira, she spent time with Amigos sponsored children and Kira students, and was deeply moved by their stories.

Joss said “It makes me angry to think that people are forced to live like this and their circumstances seem like they cannot be fixed. Every little bit that any one person can contribute really does help.”

Joss's involvement has helped raise the profile of Amigos work immensely and encourage others to sponsor a child or support Kira Farm Training Centre.
