Amigos in Uganda

We have an amazing team in Uganda that run our Kira Farm Training Centre and our Child Sponsorship programme...

Mrs. Grace Komakech B.Ed. M.Sc. (Home Economics & Nutrition)
Kira Farm Training Centre’s Principal or ‘HM’ as she is more fondly known.

Grace writes….January 2006 saw us as a family prayerfully committing to a New Year’s resolution - to help and care for more disadvantaged young people.
God spoke to me powerfully after being involved visiting and researching the shocking circumstances surrounding northern Uganda’s Internal Displaced Persons (Refugee) camps as a result of the LRA rebel activities.
A close family friend introduced me to Amigos and their dream to help and train disadvantaged young people with vocational skills.
Kira is an answer to our prayers. After spending most of my teaching life in one of the top schools in Uganda, I now have a chance to serve God and my country, sacrificially in my role as Kira principal.
Grace also regularly participates in Kira’s morning devotions.

Mr. Joseph Sabiiti (aka Mr. Fix it!)
Amigos Child Sponsorship Coordinator (and so much more)!

When God created Joseph he broke the mould!
Joseph oversees our Child Sponsorship programme - which means…
Visiting all of our sponsored children in Uganda at home and at school (travelling thousands of miles each year)
Collecting Letters and school report cards of all our sponsored children to send to sponsors.
Paying school fees and coordinating the children’s savings programme of all sponsored children.
Joseph also helps to select young people to be KFTC students.
He plays an active role in receiving and hosting international volunteers in Uganda: arranging travel, accommodation, home visits, and safaris.
Joseph is also Amigos Ug photographer and scribe and has great counselling skills being a real 'Dad' to all the Kira students.
Joseph also regularly participates in Kira’s morning devotions and speaks 17 languages/dialects!

Miss. Mary Kayaga
Kira Farm’s Catering and Guesthouse Manageress (and so much more)!

Mary is the most important person on Kira, she tirelessly works to keep all our students, management, farm workers and guests satisfied and contented. Mary is in charge of our kitchen and store, working closely with the farm to produce nutritious culinary delights for all.
Mary also manages Kira’s guesthouse/student learning centre, enabling a ‘real-life’ training environment for students that want to train in catering and hospitality.
Mary is a valued member of Amigos management team, regularly participating in Kira’s morning devotions.

Mrs. Doreen Adokorach PGDE
Kira Farm’s Warden/Matron

Doreen is responsible for the welfare, attendance and involvement of each Kira student. Doreen works closely with Grace to support the ‘spirit’ of Kira, making sure each student is fully involved and contributing to Kira’s daily life and chores. You will often find Doreen in the field with a Hoe in her hand alongside the students digging. She is a great hands-on team member, emulating a hardworking African lady and mother to all.
Besides being a teacher, Doreen’s other job was as a prison warden – not much gets past the watchful eye of Doreen at Kira Farm Training Centre!
Doreen regularly participates in Kira’s morning devotions and is charge of all evening activities.

Miss. Joeline Namakula Dip IT
Amigos Child Sponsorship (assistant)

Joeline was the first ever child that Amigos sponsored. Since gaining her ‘A’ levels she has gone on to help fund herself through evening classes to gain a diploma in IT.
Joeline has come onboard to help Joseph in all aspects of our growing child sponsorship programme, dealing mainly in data entry, children’s history files and keeping of accurate records.

Mr. Richard Komakech BSc. PGDE
Business and Life Skills Trainer

Richard is married to Grace (Principle) and teaches maths and physics at one of the top schools in Uganda, but also has a real heart for disadvantaged young people.
He is one of Kira’s most loved trainers, teaching Basic Business Numeracy and much needed Life Skills.
He helps each student discover and develop their full potential with self discovery and self-esteem, handling areas like: stress, emotions, peer pressure, forgiveness, inter-personal relationship, friendship formation, creative thinking, decision making, conflict resolution and AIDS/HIV awareness.
Richard is a highly valued member of staff and we hope that all our students emulate his kindness and love for others.
