Games
The pupils of Orchard Vale School gave us lots of ideas for games to put on the site.
Word Search
We liked this idea, and some children even made complete grids and word lists to help us. We liked the fact that all the words were about Africa and the Kira Farm Project. We will be using these.
Mazes
We have seen some lovely mazes designed by the children. Some included dead ends with lions in them! You had to find your way to school or home, or to Kira Farm. We thought the idea of walking was a good one as many children in Uganda have to walk miles to school, to work, or to get fresh water. We would really like to use the idea of mazes.
Action Games
The children thought of lots of dangers to overcome and things to search for, including fresh water and food or a safe place to live or sleep. A game like that would help us to understand how difficult life is for some children in Uganda. We can’t build a game yet because it would take lots and lots of programming work, but we may be able to build a simple game one day. We also liked the idea one child had, which was a football game where all the players were animals. This is a picture of some of the animals in a team.
A "Build Kira Farm" Game
This idea was all about the project. You have to earn money to buy tools and bricks and then build the farm and school. This was a really good idea. It helps us all to understand how many different things we need to do to be able to build the Kira Farm Project. We need volunteers to the raise the funds to buy bricks and tools. We need engineers to give their time for free to design the buildings. We need volunteers to go abroad and help with the building work. We need teachers to run the school when it is built, and people to care for the children and show them love. We also need the food, fresh water, medicines and clothing to keep these children healthy and comfortable and also the seeds, tools, plants and animals for the farm.
We would love to build this game one day. Maybe we could give instructions on the website on how to build your own ‘Build Kira Farm’ board game. Do you think a school could design the board, cards, accessories and instructions? Would you need help from older children in another school or a college?
